Pet food and product manufacturer Nestle Purina recently concluded its $250 million expansion project at its Bloomfield, Missouri cat litter plant to increase the plant’s ability to produce Tidy Cats cat litter products.

Two new buildings were added to the 1.1 million square foot campus in Missouri for the production and packaging of Tidy Cats LightWeight waste. The company upgraded its production equipment for other products under the brand, as well as its own machine for manufacturing tank containers. Nestle Purina also built a new warehouse with a series of automation technologies.

“Driven by the Tidy Cats brand, Purina’s cat litter business has achieved strong growth in the past few years. Expanding our business in Bloomfield will play a key role in ensuring that Purina can continue to provide cat owners with innovative products and excellent quality. ," Eric Willis, vice president and general manager of Purina's cat litter division, said in a recent company announcement. "The investment in Bloomfield to expand our production, add a new warehouse, and introduce most of our packaging manufacturing in-house, so that we can reach more cat owners, while also reducing our environmental impact."

The company said the Bloomfield plant is the first cat litter plant in its network to manufacture its own packaging. These internal capacities will offset approximately 480 trucks of packaging supplies and related emissions.

"Prena is proud to continue to invest in southeastern Missouri and provide key jobs in the area," said Jeff Goodmanson, plant manager at the Purina Bloomfield plant in a statement. "This expansion builds on our 45-year tradition in Bloomfield, which is to provide high-performance and innovative products that cat owners trust."

In June of this year, Nestle Purina announced plans for a $128 million expansion project at its cat litter production plant in King William County, Virginia. The company plans to build 138,000 square feet of space to increase the site's capacity and "enhance business operations" to produce Tidy Cats cat litter products, including lightweight formulas such as Free & Clean Unscented. The facility will also add 100,000 square feet of warehouse space to improve logistics management and delivery capabilities.
